The Gulf Federation for Cancer Control welcomes Zahra Breast Cancer Association of Saudi Arabia as the 13th member association of the GFFCC. Zahra Breast Cancer Association was organized by a group of well-educated women who began their campaign nine years ago in the Saudi capital of Riyadh by visiting women in schools, universities, shopping malls and mosques. The volunteers speak with women about the importance of early detection and getting regular mammograms, the commonly used test to detect breast cancer tumors. The volunteers saw that women were eager to learn more and teach others about breast cancer, thus the Zahra Breast Cancer Association was formed.   The name "Zahra" came from one of the founders - Dr. Suad Bin Amer's own mother, Zahra bint Ali (may Allah rest her soul), who died as a result of breast cancer.   The association also sells items to help fund research and treatment for cancer patients.
